How would you set up your views and monitors in my sim?

Hi everyone.

Sorry if this isn't really suited to this forum but struggling to get feedback from flightsim.com's FSX forum on this post so thought I would try here...

I wanted to post this question as I really want your opinion on how you setup my sim if you had it.

Basically I have just upgraded and reinstalled everything - see spec and setup below.

My 3 x 23" screens are setup in a Nvidia surround are typically an 'out of the window' view and my 1 x 19" screen sits below these and is used to have the Main Panel showing (or pop out dials/instruments).

I currently fly in the VC on 3 screens with trackir running and with the main 2D panel below. I get around 20 FPS. which I don't think if great.

Sometimes I switch the 3 screens to be a simple out of the window view and turn the trackir off. I then just have the main panel below to refer to (I can't now look around the Virtual cockpit). I get around 30 FTPS when I do this.

How would you set up your views and monitors different?

I plan (when £ permits) to get a MCP+EFIS and a CDU from Jetmax. When I do I think I will be able to remove my 4th screen that I use for instruments. Would you agree? as there won't be much that I can't do from physical controls.

My final step is then to get the Jetmax solution and remove my desk--- how many

Please share your view...

Hi Mark

FSX/P3Dand Xplane basically "hate" running multiple view and windows.
Seeing you are moving towards a JetMax, Instead of multiple moitors, why
don't you consider one Projector for forward vie and a flat or curved screen? This gives you a nice wide image and high frame rates.

There's a picture of a similar setup on "Case Studies" page at my website, scroll down to FlightSimKL.

Hi Mark,

I have to agree with Nat.  Every time you add another view to flightsim, your frames will die.

Of you want to stick with the 3 outsize views, I suggest you run a Tripple Head 2 Go or something, where windows will see it as just one Monitor.  This will help your frames greatly, unless you are already doing this.

Nat, Interesting regarding the curved projector screen.  I have a very high level question though.. How much should I typically be investing to get a project/screen for this?

Trevor, I do like the 3 out of the screen views and don't need a triple head 2 go as I have an Nvidia card with 4 ports and basically configure the screens in an Nvidia Surround which effectively gives me a resolution of 5760x1280.

Certainly being in the VC with trackir is killing my FPS.  Going to a 2D view just out of the window makes a noticeable difference but I feel I am losing the emersion into the sim by not having the VC around me.  I guess when I get to a full Jetmax this won't bother me as I will have the full thing in front of my physically!

By getting an MCP and CDU I am hoping this pacifies me and lets me happily move away from the VC.  In this scenerio how would you recommend accessing dials like FLAPS settings, Landing Gear lights etc..  Do you simple switch on and off the 2D panels when required?

Thanks again for feedback.

Good luck with your project.  "Don't need a VC when you have the real thing"
