So, I am currently attending a conference in North Carolina...

As I was planning for the trip knowing I was going to spend a week in a hotel, I decided to bring along my FSX disks to reinstall on my laptop (I recently reimaged my laptop) in order to get some flying in.  I also decided to bring along the X-Plane 10 Global disks I received from my daughter for Christmas.  A good opportunity to play around with XP10.  I also decided to bring along one of my PC Pilot disks that had DCS World on it as I've been meaning to see what that is all about.

Well, as there is a storm raging outside right now and the conference is cancelled for the day I got to work...  here's where it gets good.

In my rush to leave the house, I accidentally grabbed my FS9 instead of FSX disks...  can't figure out how I did that.  Strike 1.

No biggy...  XP10 here I come.  If you've never installed XP10...  it takes a while.  A loooonnnggg while.  But, hey it's loaded.  so I o to start it and it crashes.  Repeatedly.  Apparently (after hours of google), XP10 is not compatible with my laptops built in Graphics processor.  Of course, I only discovered that AFTER downloading 3GB of updates.  What the hell is the point of carrying my disks if I needed to download 3GB worth of updates...  Strike 2.

Have no fear though, I still have DCS World.  So I stick the disk in and after a few minutes of loading I get the dreaded....  can't read such and such a file...  cancel install.   Strike 3.  I really don't know if I'm up to downloading the five DCS files...

I give up.  I guess I'll watch a movie, or maybe I'll install FS9.

Welcome back on this side of the pond, even temporarily!
Average  minus 25°C for weeks on end here and one storm chasing another.
Enjoy your stay!

Hey Warren,

Welcome back to the US.   I heard about that conference on Disk Management Strategies  ;D

Sorry to hear about the multiple efforts to install...  We all know how that goes.
All is not lost though, as I'm guessing they still have the movie Top Gun on the tube.

Ive had those days! Normally it involves my F-4 sim. I start it up to for a flight but end up spending 6 hours trouble shooting problems then go home.
