Hope you all had nice holidays. I just finished my cockpit room, now my servers and clients are isolated in a constant  "refrigerated" room. I added 1000 feet of CAT6 for almost 40 RJ45 points. I took care to have lines for switches and also for signal carrying  converters eg HDMI to ethernet
In the MIP side I will use two industrial 7ports UBS powered hubs and want to carry the two signals over ethernet to the  P3D/ProSim server which has an 4 port  USB2 PCIE with controller add on card.
I am also using this solution for dedicated  VGA. The travel distance between points is 27 feet.
I was reading that some USB extenders are a problem for some I/O cards. Most of my cards are ethernet either FDS, Simcard or Pokeys.
Before I close the wall, need some last minute opinion on what might be missing to implement this USB solution.
Sorry for the long post.
Cheers
Luis

Hmmmm, sounds like you have it pretty well thought out. What do the rest of you think?

I have never had much success with USB over CAT5/6.  First of all it will limit the USB speed back to 1.1 standards, then there are frequent disconnects.
We ran single 720p Webcams over them and that was almost too much for it to handle.

I would expect that you will also have issues with device IDs changing on you.

Note, this could all be due to the adaptors i was using, but most other people i talk to have similar issues.

#Mickc, your points are in agreement with many postings about this issues.
My thinking was, it happen to those having the hubs within the cockpit, so, if this happen remotely at least I have a good explanation. LOL
I got also  a PCIE card from HP which has own controllers for each of the four connectors. Unfortunately all joystick cards are USB and we really need some in the pit.
Can you share the Brand and model of the device you tried out?

Cheers
Luis
