Okay, so I'm planning to build a throttle quadrant using this tutorial:
http://www.simpits.org/articles/thro...throtquad.html

1. Has anybody followed this and had great success? Pictures?

2. I don't have a game port and can't afford a USB Controller Board so have decided to go with a converter. It will only be handling the throttle and maybe the engine starters. Will this cause problems?

3. I'm buying this converter: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1811265869...84.m1423.l2649 which people say is good and budget, would you agree?

4. How would you connect the pots to the game port adapter? If I bought a game port cable and snipped off the female end could I connect the pots to the wires in there. Would they be the colours as in this diagram? http://www.alphalanding.com/rc-track...stick_port.png

5. If no4 wouldn't work, how would you go about doing it?

6. Any other tips?

Thanks in advance!

Hi!

Take a look at pokeys 56U. Cheap and very flexible iocard.

Also high resolution on analogic inputs for pots.  You find it on www.poscope.com

Cheers for that but at 50EUR it's still quite expensive. The Leo Budnar boards are £26 but the solution I'm looking at is around £10. I really am on a budget here!

Thanks for your help though!

Find any USB joystick (dirt cheap on EBay or anywhere else)
[ebay]251330939316[/ebay]

Open it, discard the plastic shell, and there you have some 10 buttons and 3 pots wired to some control card with a USB connection

All you need is there.

Extend the circuits (wires) to suit your TQ, calibrate axis assign buttons and fly.

Really? I already have pots and can connect these pretty easily in to the game port converter :/ ?

Sam Franklin

I've found a Logitech Wingman Attack 2 which I'm thinking of taking apart for the insides.

I have a spare bodnar card. Pots works Ok but all buttons is dead and button 1-16 is activated all the time.  I have no idea what's wrong but I guess some kind of short circuit.. Anyone had this problem?

If I can get it to work you can have it for free as I will likely never use it.

Thanks I may take you up on that! How much would postage for you be to the UK?

archen

5 euros. Would be nice if someone knows if it's repairable though. Don't think the card will be at any help if the buttons don't work because then you need another card anyway.

As you have no budget the joystick is your best bet. Forget the gameport adapter as
If you plug your pots directly to it you will have very poor resolution, hence erratic and non proportional throttle inputs.
You need a joystick "card" and the best way to get one is inside a  joystick
Get a working joystick and use its parts (not your pots unless they have similar specs)  because the joystick components were chosen to work together!
(Pots have to be linear and have some specific ohm value)

This is what I'm going to do! Hopefully the mounts that I've made will fit the pots from the joystick otherwise I could encounter some problems! The pots I have now are Linear 100K so hopefully they might be compatible.

So, I'm back from a weekend away and I've disassembled the WingMan 2 and it works! They fit the mounts but unfortunately I need to create new levers. I'm trying to calibrate the levers as well as I can with FSUIPC but I'm just getting my head around it. It looks like it's going to work though!
